Our Story

The Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade was established in 1992, following a devastating wildfire that swept through the southern end of the Valley in 1991. In response to the disaster, local residents united to protect their homes and decided to form a brigade. The first meeting took place in February 1992, held in a shaded spot across from where the Fire Station now stands. Twenty locals attended, and with the support of Rod Cox from the Tallebudgera Valley Rural Fire Brigade, the decision to officially form a brigade was made.

A committee was soon created, officers were nominated, and the Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade was born. The early years were challenging, both financially and in terms of equipment. Relying solely on donations, the brigade had no fire truck and initially responded to incidents using private vehicles, knapsacks, and beaters.

Through dedicated local fundraising and strong support from the Bonogin and Mudgeeraba communities, the brigade secured its first fire appliance in December 1993. Over the next five years, continued fundraising efforts enabled the brigade to build its own station and acquire additional vehicles.

Today, the station has been upgraded and expanded, and the brigade operates a fleet of four fire appliances with a team of 40 active operational and support members. Funding now comes from both fundraising activities and a local levy included in Gold Coast City Council rates. These funds help support brigade operations, capital projects, training, and community education.

The brigade is led by a management team consisting of the First Officer, Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary. Together with input from all members, the brigade works towards its core mission: to protect, educate, and support the residents of Bonogin Valley and surrounding areas, whether during bushfires, storms, or other emergencies.

We encourage members of our community to connect with us, whether you’re curious about bushfire safety or interested in volunteering, you’re always welcome to reach out or visit us for a chat.
