How to call Triple Zero (000) and report an emergency

In an emergency, every second counts. If you see a fire or any emergency that requires urgent assistance, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. This service connects you to police, fire, and ambulance services anywhere in Australia, including Queensland.

Below is a step-by-step guide to ensure your emergency call is handled quickly and effectively. 

Emergency+ App

The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners.

 

The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services

Further Information

If you are deaf or hard of hearing

There are many ways to contact emergency services if you are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment. 

​

You can:

  • Call Triple Zero (000) through the National Relay Service

    • For teletypewriter (TTY) users, call 106 (this service is text-based and available 24/7)

    • For SMS relay text 0423 677 767. Include: 000, fire, your name, location and details of emergency, and type GA (go ahead) at the end of your message

  • Use the Emergency+ app, which provides location information to Triple Zero (000) operators and has an option to connect through the National Relay Service.

Using an interpreter
If you need help calling Triple Zero (000), an interpreter can be arranged. To ask for an interpreter say, 'I want a [say your language] interpreter'. This service is free. 

Parents and teacher information

Teach children about Triple Zero (000) 


Young children are capable of learning how and when to dial Triple Zero (000), a fun way to do this is by playing the Triple Zero kid's challenge.

By teaching a child what happens when they dial 000 in an emergency and practicing with them (without actually placing a call), it could one day save their life, and yours.

Need emergency help during or after a flood or storm?

132 500 is the number to call if you need the assistance of the State Emergency Service (SES) in non-life-threatening emergency situations, during floods and storms or other similar events.

 

If the situation is life threatening, always call Triple Zero (000).
